“When Roxy first read about the inspiration behind the Life is a Mixtape collection, she immediately thought of Nina Simone. While growing up, Nina’s music was on heavy rotation in Roxy’s home, ingraining her intense, soulful vocals into the memories of her childhood. For Roxy, Nina’s life journey was at once full of intrigue, amazement and struggle. Although Nina’s work in the 60’s is Roxy’s favorite part of her musical catalogue, Roxy was not focused on any one particular song in developing her scarf design concept. Instead, she aimed to develop a portrait of Nina that would at once portray both the duality in her music and colorful, eye catching African-inspired design elements. Roxy hopes to have done Nina justice (we think she nailed it!) and that you love Nina as much as she does. ”
“Best Friends was inspired by Roxy’s love for the plants she enjoys looking at and being surrounded by in her home. Just as the plants must be watered and tended to daily in order to grow and flourish, Roxy nourishes her own creative inspirations through expressing her artistry daily, be it through illustration, painting or fashion design. Roxy had this concept in mind while exploring the Dynamic Duo theme. She started with selecting two of her favorite plants, which are woven throughout, and then layered energy into the design with the geometric duo of dots and stripes in a bold, vivid colorway. As a result, Best Friends becomes its own vivacious visual cocktail that is greater than the sum of its parts.”
